A major problem that I have with recruiting services

A major problem that I have with recruiting servicesLet me state a few things before I go into this article.  I have never worked at a recruiting service and don’t plan to.  The reason I say that is because I am not bitter about them and thus trying to rip on the people that work for them.  Many of these same people actually subscribe to the RSS feed and check out this site daily.  Some of these companies do solid jobs and others do not.  Like all industries, there are going to be good and bad apples.

I have always said since day one of starting this site that if families actually put the time and effort into it, they can save thousands of dollars by doing it themselves.  Yes, there will be a major time commitment but I feel this is a great time to build the relationship with your son/daughter even more while going to bat with them.  So anyways, I obviously am against recruiting services overall if families have the time to invest into it.  But something made me extremely sick to my stomach that I saw on a recruiting service website recently that must be talked about.

I am not going to say the recruiting service, the website, or exactly what I saw.  But I can describe it.  I really wish I wouldn’t have seen it and I really wish they wouldn’t have posted it.  What I saw was complete B.S. and it makes me even more against recruiting services.

Anyways, one recruiting service website was talking about being how only a certain number of athletes are highlighted by this renowned recruiting expert.  And if they wanted to get listed next year, they should either take their chances going about it by themselves or they should sign up for their recruiting service.  I am calling complete bullshit on this.  This I believe is the first time I have cussed on this site but it must be emphasized.

This is the epitome of why I dislike recruiting services.  They are promising something that they have very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very little control over.  I have known many of the athletes who have been honored over the years.  I am sure there are some but most of these athletes are freaks.  They don’t need a recruiting service to highlight them.  All they need is a full game tape to send out and scholarships will come by the handful.

Other recruiting services will make other promises about how they can get you listed by Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and other sites.  If you have been reading this site, you will have realized that it is actually pretty easy to go about your business and get listed by all three of these recruiting databases.

I understand that in order for recruiting services to make money, they must do an excellent job selling their product.  They must be salespeople whenever they talk to families about all that they provide.  But it is these over promises that kill me.  Not all that many families have an extra thousand dollars laying around (and many times it will be much more) so it takes a lot for them to spend this on something that they can do themselves.  But when they are being promised stuff (like being listed by this prestigious expert), it just isn’t right.

Anyways, I am sure we will have those that work/run a recruiting service reading this so feel free to tell me what you think about this post.
